About Us

Here at Faceittea, we are on a mission to create natural skincare products of the highest quality – and to ensure these products are delivered as sustainably as possible.

Our philosophy is simple. We say no to harmful chemicals and yes to all things plant based. Our products contain only the finest botanical ingredients and are carefully chosen to ensure they are completely organic, non-toxic, vegan and cruelty-free. We believe strongly in harnessing the power of plants to develop safe and clean beauty products which prove highly effective on all skin types.

Our promise is to stay green as we grow. We are passionately committed to waste reduction and climate action and as such work tirelessly to minimise our environmental impact.

Our products are created with the utmost care, for both your skin and for the environment.

Ingredients

We believe that nature provides us with all we need to care for our skin. This is why we take great care when sourcing our materials and prefer to use wild-harvested ingredients, free from chemicals and pesticides. Many of the raw herbs contained in our products are hand- picked directly from their wild habitat – the pristine forests of the Carpathian Mountains in Central and Eastern Europe. Once gathered, they are then carefully processed into usable oils and extracts by local monastic communities. The rest of our ingredients, such as the konjac, are harvested in Japan before being lovely incorporated into our products in Europe. We utilise clean and offender-free ingredients whilst never compromising on the quality or efficacy of our products.

While we agree that a lot of chemical or synthetic ingredients deliver very good results on the skin they are not so safe when they end up in our oceans and landfilled. That is why we are commuted to find organic substitutes that have similar functions but cause no harm to the planet. We work hard to ensure our ingredients are not just gentle to the skin, but gentle to the environment too. This approach is central to our brand as we believe we are at a time in our human history where we must be more mindful as consumers. This is why our ingredients are carefully chosen to ensure no known toxins are introduced to the ecosystem, when you use our products.

Paper Packaging

We are a certified, low-waste business. Our product packaging is made from recycled paper, bound with a plant-based gelatine glue and our delivery packaging is made from recycled Kraft cardboard. It is designed to offer our customers a sustainable alternative to conventional plastic packaging which has such a monumental effect on the environment. Just 14% of all plastic packaging produced globally is actually recycled, as the vast majority is either incinerated, disposed of in landfills, or simple released into nature.1 Horrifyingly, once in landfills, it can take these plastics up to 1000 years to fully decompose!2 We avoid contributing to this by ensuring our packaging is plastic-free and 100% recyclable. In order to achieve this, we use an eco-friendly paper stock which is exposed to no plastic lamination or waxing, whatsoever. However, in the event that our product packaging does end up in landfill, we have made sure it will biodegrade completely within just 4 weeks.

Our packaging materials are pre-loved. No trees are harmed in the production of our product packaging as we use post-consumer/post-industrial recycled paper only. Due to this, our packaging may sometimes show discolouration, however rest assured that this does not affect the product in any way.

Glass Packaging

In addition to our paper packaging, many of our products are available in glass jars. This aligns closely with our low-waste ethos as with good care, glass jars can be re-used indefinitely. In the UK glass has an impressive recycling rate of 68.8% - one of the highest rates of all packaging materials.

At Faceittea we believe in the circular economy and aim to design-out waste and pollution by keeping our products in use for as long as possible. This why our customers are encouraged to buy one glass jar and then to continue purchasing our refill options thereafter. This extends the life cycle of our products and makes our packaging durable rather than disposable.

The skincare industry generates a huge amount of unnecessary waste, much of this is plastic, and a staggering 95% is single use. In fact, according to the UN, the average person generates almost 2 kilograms of plastic packaging waste a day. This amounts to 730 kilogrammes a year!4 At Faceittea we are very conscious of the devastating effects single-use plastics have, particularly for our oceans, but for the broader environment as well. This is why our packaging is plastic free and low waste.

Refills

Our refills are made from recycled Kraft paper, a bio-based, ecological alternative to conventional packaging materials. The refills also contain corn starch, a biproduct of sugar cane. Kraft paper is a mono-material and as such can be easily and effectively recycled. Derived from wood pulp, it can be placed in compost and will degrade within just 21 days. In landfill, Kraft paper biodegrades into cellulose fibres within 3 months and is completely re- absorbed into nature, leaving little to no impact on the environment.

Marine Life

Single-use plastic bags and packaging are the biggest killer of marine species on record. Once these discarded plastics enter our oceans, they break down into smaller and smaller microplastics. This microplastic is then ingested by an array of sea creatures, blocking their digestive tracks and proving deadly to many species.6 The positive news is that the cosmetics industry has caught onto this and brands have begun to make commitments to phase out plastic packaging.

However, it isn’t just packaging that’s dangerous to marine life, but the products ingredients too. Many skincare products contain active chemical compounds which are washed down the drain and end up in our oceans, posing a real threat to marine species. Take Oxybenzone for example, a compound commonly used in soaps and body fragrances. When introduced into marine ecosystems, Oxybenzone has been found to significantly impair the growth of coral reefs and reduce fertility in fish. Shockingly, this compound proves toxic to marine species at a concentration of just one drop in over six Olympic swimming pools.

Given this, it is clear that we must apply the same level of vigilance and environmental sensitivity to our ingredients, as we do to our packaging. This is something we take very seriously at Faceittea as preserving the environment lies at the very heart of our brand. We ensure our products are as ocean-friendly as possible by incorporating natural, chemical-free ingredients only.
